Here are the main things to look when building your craft Business:
1. Establish who your customers are.
2. Do some market research and find out what your customers need.
3. Build your business plan in line with your target market.
4. Have a website built or build it yourself (you can start by setting up a WordPress site for free)
5. Organize promotional items such as business cards, brochures, flyers and catalogs.
6. Promote you Art and Craft business by attending trade shows. Put a lot of thought into your display to attract the most people.
7. Organize workshops at your studio or store and focus on giving the best customer experience.
8. Finally, set your prices to maximize profit.

When building an Art & Craft business, a clothing store, restaurant, a casino or agency or any business for that matter, it’s important to focus on one goal at a time. Once you have accomplished that goal, you can move on to the next. The key to building a successful business is set measurable goals and time frame and to go one step at a time to get there.

Started by the Tourist Development Agency of the State of Texas, the first Fair was held on Memorial Day Weekend, 1972, on the campus of Schreiner University in Kerrville. It is now run by the non-profit Texas Arts and Crafts Educational Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors, and was held on the same campus and the same weekend until 2004. In 2002, the Foundation leased 7.4 acres of beautiful land overlooking the Guadalupe River from Kerr County. The River Star Arts and Event Park grew from that lease into a permanent year round event park facility and the 2004 Fair will be the first event held in the park. All profits from the Fair go toward funding educational projects including the Emerging Texas Artist Program, voted “Best New Educational Project” in 2003 by the Texas Festival and Events Association.

In 1995, the Texas Legislature declared the Texas State Arts & Crafts Fair as the official arts and crafts fair in Texas. This is truly a Texas tradition.

Enter the gates of the Official Texas State Arts & Crafts Fair on Memorial Day Weekend and find yourself basking in an atmosphere unlike most Texas fairs and festivals.

Once inside, approximately 150 of Texas’ finest artisans are on site selling their creative works. These exhibitors have qualified through a rigorous selection process which solicits only the best Texas artisans who produce their own works. A visitor has the opportunity to meet the artisan and purchase original arts and crafts, unlike the manufactured and mass produced products found elsewhere.

Educational demonstrations offer many learning opportunities as well as some hands-on experiences. Displays from vintage years may be located throughout the grounds along with visions of life in days gone by or yet to come.

Entertainment has its place on the grounds. One may experience the sounds of jazz, country, Cajun, gospel, or many toe tapping versions in between. Young people performing their artistic talents are also expressed. All in the shade, this is a good place to relax and enjoy the day.

No fair would be complete without food and drinks. A variety of food is available throughout the fairgrounds from corn-on-the-cob to shish-ka-bob and sweets from ice cream to funnel cakes. Wash it all down with drinks including water, soft drinks, slush’s, beer and wine.

Following the concept of an old-fashioned fair, bring the family, spend the day relaxing by the creek, be entertained, learn about life of our ancestors, enjoy good food and drinks, and go home with unique purchases created by Texas artisans. The Official Texas State Arts & Crafts Fair on Memorial Day Weekend offers it all.
